Safety & Crisis Response

Last updated: September 18, 2026

WisdomChat lets you talk with AI simulations of history’s great thinkers. Every persona is artificial intelligence — you are never speaking with a human being, and never with a licensed doctor, therapist, or other health professional. This page summarizes the safety protocol we follow when conversations touch on health or personal crisis, published in accordance with California Business and Professions Code section 22602(b).

If you are in crisis, get human help now

If you are thinking about suicide or self-harm, or you are in an emergency, do not rely on WisdomChat. In the United States and Canada, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline; 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline in Canada), or call 911 for emergencies. WisdomChat’s personas cannot help you in a crisis, and the app is designed to stop the conversation and show you these resources instead.

How our safety system works

Before any persona responds, an automated safety system reviews each message you send — in both text and voice conversations. Messages fall into three categories. General wellbeing and philosophical discussion is what WisdomChat is for: personas share the documented teachings of the figures they simulate, as education and philosophy, never as clinical guidance. Requests for medical or mental-health advice — diagnosis, treatment, medication, dosage, or interpretation of symptoms — are declined: the persona will not answer, and you will be referred to a licensed professional instead. Crisis signals — suicidal ideation, self-harm, harm to others, abuse, overdose, or a medical emergency — immediately interrupt the conversation and bring up crisis resources, on screen and, in voice mode, spoken aloud. A backup check runs even if the main safety system is unavailable, and the system does not allow a declined request to be re-asked in different words.

What we record

When the safety system declines a health-advice request or shows crisis resources, we log only metadata about the event — a timestamp, a session identifier, the category, and the software versions involved. The text of your conversation is never stored in the safety log. We use these records to improve the protocol and to prepare the aggregate, de-identified safety reports required by California law. Details are in our Privacy Policy.

Who can use WisdomChat

WisdomChat is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use the service, and age confirmation is part of signing up. The service is currently offered in the United States and Canada, in English.
